Taibah University represented in the Libraries Affairs Deanship and Information and Learning Department at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the female students section produced the first information product at the level of Arab Universities “ WikiTaibah”, and it celebrated today its production at its academic As Salam Complex in the presence of University Studies Dean Dr.Enas Taha and the assistant University Studies Dean, the Dean of the Faculty of Science Dr. Suha Abdul Jawad.
Dr.Meshan Al Otaiby, the Libraries Affairs Dean and the Information and Learning Sources Dean stated that the Libraries Affairs Dean in cooperation with the Information and Learning Sources Department launched the project (WikiTaibah) which is a project relying on (wiki programming) information system to provide cooperative environment for the Faculty Members, male and female students in building up an academic scientific content covering all specialties of Scientific Departments at the University. He said that the product is deemed as an electronic model of the information and exchange of electronic materials among the academic community’s member and it is the first one in terms of goal, content, and tabulation. Also, it supports the educational process at Taibah University in addition to other universities as accessing and participation therein is available for male and female students and Faculty Members.
Dr. Al Otaiby added that WikiTaibah will be a comprehensive encyclopedia covering all academic materials in all specialties at Faculties and other materials may be added as needed.
While Dr. Anam Muhammad Al Tayeb, the Deputy Head of Information and Learning Sources Department and Assistant Professor of Knowledge Management pointed out that (WikiTaibah) aims at being an academic information encyclopedia covering all academic courses at the Departments of diverse Faculties at Taibah Universities and it will be a means for partaking and cognitive exchange among the students, Faculty Members, and those concerned from out side the University.
She added: the whole world concentrates now on cooperation in completing projects, and (WikeTaibah) is an honorable model between the Libraries Affairs Deanship and Information Department to implement this project. Dr.Anam Al Tayeb pinpointed that this project has been implemented at the hands of a distinct and ambitious group of female students from the Information Department in spite of its novelty. Besides, it includes male and female students who have the capability to complete such projects, noting that the executed project sustains new orientation towards knowledge sharing and exchange where it enables the students, Faculty Members, and those interested from inside and outside the University to share their information and knowledge relevant to academic courses and taking advantage from each other.
Dr.Badawyah Al Basyouny, the Associate Professor at Information and Learning Sources pointed out that (WikiTaibah) has been created on 20 January 2013 A.D., and the site includes 1673 pages divided into pages related to the University’s Faculties, branching out into pages related to the academic Departments available at each Faculty, then pages relevant to each academic course inside each Department, including special information of the course and its scientific content.
Dr.Kholoud Al Ahmad, the Deputy of Faculty of Arts and Humanities eulogized the product as the first (Wiki) site at Arab Universities as one of social software which rapidly spread and had an effect in the method of exchanging knowledge and sharing it via networks, noting that the Wiki word used this type of content management system to refer to rapidness and ease in amending the site contents, and the product will become a rich source of academic information for scientific specialties at Faculties, Departments, and academic courses.
