4. Course general Description:
This course introduces the students to appropriate scientific knowledge, which
enables them to develop their clinical and educational approaches to care of
children and their families. The course starts with concepts of health promotion
and maintenance, and the prevention of illness and accidents. Selected
physiological health problems including alteration in respiratory, metabolic, renal,
neurological, endocrinology, cardiac and other health problems common to all
children are introduced. Nursing management relevant to each problem is
discussed using the nursing process, developmental theories, new trends and the
recent approaches in the management and caring of children.

The students should be able to
7. Utilize basic scientific principles and concepts to provide safe nursing care for
common medical and surgical problems among children in different
developmental age.
8. Explain physiological, psychosocial and cognitive development of children from
neonatal to adolescence in relation to health promotion and disease
prevention.
9. Demonstrate nursing competencies in nursing care of pediatric patients in
relation to ethics and safety regulations of nursing practice and communication
skills.
10. Integrate critical thinking skills to pediatric nursing practice with patient by
using evidence base practice.
