Taibah University in Madinah today showcased its efforts in teaching the Braille language, in conjunction with World Braille Day, as part of its endeavors to support students with visual impairments in their educational journey.

The University explained that the Braille education programs implemented over the past year contributed to empowering 125 male and female students to use this essential tool for learning and communication. Among them were 104 students who are totally blind and 21 students with low vision, enabling them to express their ideas and feelings and to interact with confidence and clarity within their educational environment.

It added that these efforts come ضمن an integrated system of educational and support services that the University is keen to provide, which enhances students’ independence, improves the quality of their educational experience, and supports their academic and social inclusion.

It is worth noting that World Braille Day, observed annually on January 4, embodies global attention to people who are blind or visually impaired, and promotes their inclusion in society by supporting reading and writing and empowering them with tools of knowledge and communication. The day is linked to the birth of the French inventor of the Braille system, Louis Braille, in 1809, whose invention has undergone technological developments that have expanded its use through digital means and modern applications.

This comes within the framework of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives, which aim to support inclusive education, develop human capital, empower persons with disabilities, and improve quality of life, thereby enhancing their active participation in society and national development
