University Sustainability Statement

Towards a Sustainable Future… Education is built, Research is innovated, and Society evolves.

Definition of Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is a comprehensive concept that aims to achieve a balance between economic progress, social justice, and environmental protection. This approach seeks to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, through strategies that integrate responsibility, innovation, and long-term investment.
In 2015, the international community reached an unprecedented consensus by adopting an ambitious global agenda endorsed by United Nations member states, built on a developmental vision that directs the world towards a fairer and more stable future.

Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Sustainable Development

As part of its regional and global role, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed strong emphasis on the SDGs, integrating them into its strategic orientation through Vision 2030, which rests on three main pillars: a thriving economy, a vibrant society, and an ambitious nation.
Many national programs and initiatives have been aligned with the UN agenda, including:

  • Promoting the sustainability of natural and environmental resources through initiatives such as Saudi Green.

  • Supporting quality education and scientific research in fields related to development.

  • Empowering women and increasing their economic and social participation.

  • Launching programs to enhance quality of life in cities and communities.

  • Investing in renewable energy and sustainable modern technologies.

This commitment reflects the Kingdom’s deep belief that sustainable development is not a choice, but a necessity to ensure a prosperous future for coming generations and to contribute meaningfully to shaping a more balanced and stable world.
