Taibah University has registered an innovative industrial design for a device that helps the elderly safely transition between sitting and standing positions. This design is part of an engineering solution that contributes to enhancing independence, improving quality of life, and meeting the needs of home and healthcare facilities.
The design is based on a stable base equipped with lockable wheels and a movable upper frame with an electric lifting system that allows for height adjustment up to 40 cm. Front handles provide additional support for the user during movement, enhancing safety and ease of use.
The design prioritizes a safe user environment with a structure free of sharp edges. It is also suitable for users ranging in height from 140 to 185 cm and weighing up to 150 kg, making it appropriate for use in homes and healthcare facilities.
This innovation helps reduce the physical burden on caregivers and supports the independence of the elderly during daily activities, thus enhancing the quality of healthcare and increasing the efficiency of supportive solutions for beneficiaries. This achievement comes as an extension of Taibah University’s efforts to support innovation, research and development, and to transform scientific and engineering outputs into applied solutions that serve the community and contribute to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in the areas of innovation, quality of life and health care.
