This course introduces the thermodynamic principles behind the energy conversion process and provides a theoretical framework for predicting the performance of energy conversion systems. The course is divided into two parts as follows. The first part deals with the fundamentals of thermodynamics including energy, energy transfer, general energy analysis in systems, mass and energy balance, principals’ laws of thermodynamics, entropy balance, and thermodynamic cycles. The second part deals with the various applications to energy conversion processes including steam cycle, gas turbine, refrigeration cycles, and fuel cells.
