This course provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience in fluid mechanics, heat transfer and mass transfer systems. Students will gain experience through working in a group to complete the experiments and to collect and analyze the data and writing up an individual final report. This course includes various fluid mechanics practical experiments such as properties of fluids and hydrostatics, particle Drag coefficient apparatus, Bernoulli’s theorem demonstration unit, hydrostatic forces on submerged surfaces, Osborne Reynolds demonstration, impact of a jet on stationary vanes: linear momentum, losses in pipes and fitting apparatus, pipe network apparatus, fluid friction measurement apparatus, serial and parallel pump test rig, cavitation demonstration unit, liquid mixing equipment, and gas flow measurement bench. In addition, it includes various heat transfer practical experiments such as heat conduction study bench, free and forced convection heat transfer unit, natural convection and radiation unit, thermal conductivity of solid, liquid and gas, Fluidization and fluid bed heat transfer, film and dropwise. Moreover, it also includes several mass transfer practical experiments such as gas Diffusion coefficient apparatus, liquid diffusion coefficient apparatus, and wetted-wall column.
