This course presents an introduction to the analysis, design, and implementation of process control strategies. This course covers control theories, implementation and analysis of open-loop and closed-loop process dynamics, stability, and controller tuning. Feedback control schemes, Instrument elements, controlled and manipulated variables, control performance measure are also included. The course discusses classical PID control design, stability of closed loop systems, Routh stability analysis, Bode stability criterion, and gain and phase margins. The course covers cascade control, feedforward control, inferential control, and single-variable model predictive control. This course includes various practical experiments such as pH control, temperature control, level control, pressure control, flow control, and Ratio control and stability analysis (PID controller tuning).
