The English Language Skills 1 (ENGL 101) course is a skill-based course that focuses on developing the general and academic language skills of the English language students. The course is a pre-requisite for the ENGL102 course. It develops students’ language skills and competencies by exposing them to a variety of general and academic contexts at the beginner & elementary language levels. In addition, the course builds the students' abilities in the language knowledge area by providing them with a wide range of vocabulary and grammatical structures. Moreover, the course develops the learners' cognitive skills such as analyzing, criticizing, synthesizing, and evaluating which are needed by the students at the university stage. The main purpose of this pre-requisite course is to: 1- Equip the students with the language skills and abilities needed to successfully meet the language requirements of the ENGL102 course. 2-Provide major and no-major students with the basic English skills. 3- Introduce some real-life topics to help students express themselves well.
