Molecular Genetics course deals with nucleic acids characteristics and proteins and how these molecules interact within the cell to promote proper growth, division, and development. It is a large and ever-changing discipline. This course will emphasize the molecular mechanisms of DNA replication, transcription, protein synthesis, and gene regulation, recombination particularly in prokaryotes. Students are expected to carry out experiments to discern these mechanisms. Students will understand relationship between structure and function of biological macromolecule and macromolecule complex, primarily DNA, RNA, and protein. The course also will relate the molecule biology basics to biotechnology and explore molecular techniques to engineer organisms.
