This is an introductory course in solid state physics that enrich the theoretical and experimental based knowledge in the properties of solid materials. The course introduces the principles and laws of physics and applies them to understand and interpret many properties of the solid materials. The subjects in this course includes, but not limited to, lattice points, symmetry operations, crystal types, x-ray diffraction and reciprocal lattices, cohesive energy of solid, lattice dynamics and thermal properties of solids, transport properties of solids, free electron theory of solids. It prepares student for advanced research problems in material science related subjects at later levels.
