This course deals with the growth, classification, and identification of bacteria. Study key characteristics, sources, and biology of many commonly encountered and/or taxonomically interesting bacterial groups. It will be considered, how molecular approaches, particularly 16S ribosomal RNA sequence analysis, allow diverse organisms to be grouped based on phylogenetic relationships. Methods and approaches for the isolation and identification of bacteria are considered in the laboratory.
