4. Course general Description:
The course is designed so that the students integrate all the previous gained knowledge and
skills to formulate and conduct an independent medical laboratory research and prepare it as
a written research paper for oral and/or poster presentation. Topics are selected by students
and approved by supervisors. Research paper – 4000 word written report, in the format of a
peer- reviewed scientific journal publication. Requires the student to conduct a research study
or audit and write up their research project in the standard format of a journal publication (i.e.
abstract, background, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, references). The work should
be presented both visually and verbally in the standard format utilized in a scientific conference
presentation allowing for audience questions of the presented work.

7. Course Main Objective(s):
1- Demonstrate originality in the design of a research study.
2- Critically appraise and review scientific literature. Interpret one’s own research findings
in the context of current knowledge and literature.
3- Develop the skills of critical appraisal, and analysis of medical laboratory sciencesfocused research project.
4- Develop advanced level knowledge of a specific area of the subject of the research.
5- Analyze the results of the research using statistical software packages.
6- Explain the results of the study.
7- Integrate the knowledge and skills acquired from other modules. Produce a substantive
professional scientific report on the findings and present these findings orally in a
scientific manner.
