This course focuses on naturally occurring inorganic substances known as minerals. This course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the chemical composition, crystal structure, physical properties, and classification of the major rock forming minerals. Through lectures, and laboratory exercises, students will gain knowledge about the formation, occurrence, and identification of silicate and non-silicate mineral species. Since this is a geology course, we will investigate how geologic materials and processes influence mineral occurrence, stability, and composition. Finely, this subject will briefly explain some common methods used for the mineral exploration and mineral genesis as well.
