The course introduces students to the different fundamental notions of semantics and meaning. It investigates linguistic semantics and decides to what extent the encoded meaning of the linguistic expression employed by a speaker undermines the proposition explicitly expressed by him/her. It also deals with how to fill the gap between the semantic representations of the sentence and the thought actually communicated by the utterance.
