This course offers an in-depth exploration of modern database systems, focusing on advanced topics such as distributed databases, NoSQL, NewSQL, and cloud databases. Students will gain a deep understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of database management systems (DBMS) while also exploring practical applications in real-world scenarios, particularly in handling big data, scalability, and performance optimization. The course emphasizes database architecture, query optimization, transaction management, and emerging technologies like in-memory and blockchain-based databases. A significant part of the course also covers advanced data modeling techniques, including the design and analysis of Enhanced Entity-Relationship (EER) diagrams, to model complex database systems.
