English Language (1) is a general English course meant to take students from elementary to pre-intermediate level. It consists of comprehensive work on grammar and writing, along with an interest in particular study skills pertaining to writing. The course covers key grammar points (including verb tenses and forms, adverbs of frequency, articles, modal auxiliaries, comparatives and superlatives, count and uncountable nouns, expressions of quantity…) and actively involves learners in developing their knowledge of grammar and in working out the rules for themselves. The course also aims to develop the students' writing skills. Emphasis is placed on discourse features of written English, with analysis of text models and practice at sentence, paragraph and text levels. It also instills in students’ rigor in checking their own writing. Planning and writing effective short business reports is a significant component of the course, as well.
