The Health Institute for Girls in Yanbu was established on February 2, 2005 (22/12/1426 AH) under Administrative Decree No. (49/35/ش), and was supervised by the General Directorate of Health Institutes and Colleges. It was assigned the institutional code (890). The institute was founded in response to the community’s need for qualified healthcare professionals who could contribute to improving the healthcare system across therapeutic, preventive, and rehabilitative domains. In the same year, the institute began admitting its first cohort of high school graduates into a two-year General Nursing program, followed by a six-month internship in healthcare facilities across the Kingdom.
In 2006 (15/09/1427 AH), a decision was issued to upgrade the institute to an intermediate-level health college, and to convert the General Nursing program into a diploma program in health colleges, as approved by the Ministry of Health. The college later moved to its new campus in the Al-Amoudi district to accommodate the increasing number of students.
In late 2007 (22/12/1428 AH), the college was officially transferred to the Ministry of Education under Royal Decree No. (11032/م ب). It then became affiliated with Taibah University and adopted its academic plan for health colleges. The new curriculum introduced a preparatory year focusing on English language development, communication skills, and foundational courses such as anatomy, physiology, and healthcare ethics, to prepare students academically and professionally before entering the nursing specialization phase. This is followed by two years of specialized nursing education and a six-month internship in local teaching hospitals.
As part of its community engagement efforts, the college has signed cooperation agreements with hospitals and health centers in Yanbu to provide practical training opportunities for its students. On June 27, 2009 (04/07/1430 AH), the Higher Education Council issued Decision No. (3/1430) to restructure the college under the name “College of Applied Medical Sciences in Yanbu,” making it one of Taibah University’s specialized colleges for training healthcare professionals.
