About the Department:

The Department of Sports Science and Physical Activity was established in Medina in 1980 CE (1400 AH) as part of the King Abdulaziz University Faculty of Education branch in Medina. Following the founding of Taibah University in 2003 CE (1424 AH), the department became part of its structure, marking over 41 years of operation. The department's name was changed from "Physical and Health Education" to its current title in 2009 CE (1430 AH).

Over its 42-year history, the department has been led by 11 different chairs. Currently, under its new designation, the department comprises 24 faculty members and equivalent academic staff. This new program was recommended in the 12th Department Council meeting on topic three, dated 1439/8/8 AH, submitted to the Dean of the Faculty of Education under reference number 143988464 on 1439/8/15 AH, and subsequently approved for inclusion as an undergraduate program within the Faculty of Education under the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science.

 

Department Objectives:

Grounding the objectives of physical education in the values and principles of Islam.

Preparing qualified professionals for roles in teaching, coaching, and officiating within schools, clubs, educational and recreational institutions, military and police sectors, and for people with special needs.

Promoting sports culture throughout the community.

Keeping pace with modern social trends in the care of individuals with special needs.

Contributing to and participating in the organization of sports festivals and demonstrations for various events and occasions.

Contributing to the understanding of practical applications for modern technologies used in diagnosing, measuring, and evaluating motor performance in high-level sports, and employing them to develop competitive athletic performance.
