The Chemical Engineering Department offers a five-year Bachelor of Science program in Chemical Engineering and plans to introduce programs leading to master's and doctoral degrees in the future. The department was established in 1444 AH (2022 CE) and is the newest department in the College of Engineering in Yanbu.
Chemical engineers are at the forefront of technology, and their role in modern society has become increasingly important. They design, implement, and oversee industrial processes where materials undergo transformation. Accordingly, the program is designed to provide a solid foundation in chemical engineering through core courses in areas such as transport phenomena, reaction engineering, heat and mass transfer, and chemical processes. This will be followed by elective courses that allow students to gain additional knowledge about various chemical processes and their applications. The College of Engineering also requires that coursework equips students with technical writing and communication skills, as well as knowledge in engineering economics and management. Additionally, students will be required to complete an 8-week professional internship during the summer semester after their fourth year. This is aimed at helping them gain insight into how the industry operates, acquire some professional experience, and choose a field of specialization.
The Chemical Engineering Department at Taibah University aspires to become a leading institution known for excellence in chemical engineering education, research, and professional services to the local community and region. It aims to be recognized as one of the top chemical engineering departments in the region, being one of the newly established specialties supported by the university and aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
