Overview

In line with Taibah University’s commitment to promoting the values set forth in the University Ethical Charter, and in compliance with the Law of Ethics of Research on Living Creatures issued by Royal Decree No. (M/59) dated 24.08.2010, the Permanent Committee for Scientific Research Ethics on Living Creatures at Taibah University was established pursuant to Administrative Decision No. (76/Q), issued by the University Rector on 27.08.2024. The Committee serves as the official institutional body responsible for overseeing the ethical aspects of research conducted on living creatures by members of the University.

The Committee aims to ensure that all scientific research adheres to approved ethical standards and safeguards human rights and the dignity and welfare of living creatures, in a manner consistent with Islamic values, national regulations, and internationally recognized standards governing research ethics.

Tasks

  • Forming subcommittees in the university’s colleges.
  • Developing the regulations governing research ethics at the university concerning living organisms, monitoring updates and changes in ethical standards, and ensuring their implementation.
  • Supervising the workflow of subcommittees across different colleges and making decisions on recommendations submitted by these subcommittees to ensure compliance with ethical standards.
  • Registering research projects that have received ethical approval in accordance with the system governing research ethics on living organisms and its executive regulations, and submitting them to the National Committee for Bioethics at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.
  • Overseeing research projects conducted jointly with external institutions and sectors outside the university.
  • Promoting awareness of research ethics at the university by clarifying the role of research ethics committees and emphasizing the importance of compliance with the rules and regulations related to research ethics.
  • Submitting recommendations from subcommittees regarding penalties for violations of research ethics to the relevant authorities inside or outside the university, as deemed appropriate by the committee.
