The course will cover the principles and practice of plant taxonomy (identification, nomenclature, classification). Emphasis is placed on acquiring the facility to use appropriate terminology (floral and vegetative) to identify flowering plants, as well as providing good knowledge about the origin of angiosperms. The most common systems of angiosperms classifications including Adolf Engler (1844-1930) and Karl Prantl (1849-1893) are studied and the course referring to the newest current system in the world; ANGIOSPERM PHYLOGENY GROUPS (APG III). Of particular importance is enhancing the student’s talent in identifying the different families of angiosperms depending on both vegetative and flower structures besides constructing a key to differentiate between the studied flowering plant families.
