This course introduces the students to the basic concepts and theories behind geographical information systems (GIS). The course aims to develop both a solid understanding and comprehensive computer-based practical skills on GIS applications. Adequate knowledge of spatial data types, spatial data visualization, spatial data analyses and spatial data modeling will be delivered during this course. The acquired knowledge and skills on how to compile, visualize, analyze and present geospatial data will allow the students to ultimately produce miscellaneous GIS-based thematic maps utilizing the cartographic capabilities of an appropriate GIS software.
