College College of Pharmacy Program Doctor of Pharmacy Course Title Pharmaceutical Chemistry I Course Code PPC 214 Department Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Course General Description This course deals with the knowledge of drug discovery, design and development strategies through direct way (Structure-based) and indirect way (Target-based). In addition to that, it focuses on the fundamental aspect of pharmaceutical chemistry including drug targets and the effect of physicochemical and biopharmaceutical properties of the drug on its pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic profile. This course also covers the structure- activity relationship (SAR) concept and metabolic processes for drug classes related to cardiovascular system, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Furthermore, it helps students to design, synthesize and analyze the spectroscopic data of medicinal compounds and predict their effects on the biological activity.
