The first batch of students was admitted to the Department of Biology in the academic year 1432/1433 AH. The Department of Biology is considered one of the most prominent scientific departments at the College of Science in Yanbu. It was restructured and renamed with the approval of the letter No. 48/T dated 8/6/1433 AH, based on the letter from the Minister of Higher Education, No. 1200/A dated 7/6/1433 AH, which included the approval of the Higher Education Council's decision No. (12-69-1433) to change the name of the "College of Science and Arts" to the "College of Science in Yanbu."
The academic program of the Department of Biology includes three main branches: Zoology, Botany, and Microbiology. It also offers a number of service courses taught to other colleges at the Yanbu campus of the university. The department works on qualifying and graduating distinguished students (Biology majors) to work in various positions in both the public and private sectors. The department is rich in highly qualified academic staff, both national and international.
The department includes laboratories for teaching and practical training, as well as others for scientific research. The department is currently working on setting up and developing a plant tissue culture laboratory, a herbarium, and a biology museum.
