The English Language Skills (2) (ENGL 102) course is a skill-based course which focuses on developing the general and academic language skills of the target students. The course builds on what the students have acquired in the ENGL101course. It continues to develop the students’ language skills and competencies by exposing them to a variety of general and academic contexts at the pre-intermediate language level. In addition, the course develops the students' abilities in the language knowledge area by providing them with a wide range of vocabulary and grammatical structures. Moreover, the course develops the learners' cognitive skills such as analyzing, criticizing, synthesizing, and evaluating which are needed by the students at the university stage. The course aims to 1- take students from the beginners’ level to the elementary level based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) language levels scale. 2- equip the target students with the language skills and abilities of the A2 level according to the CEFR language proficiency scales. 3-ensure that the target learners will be able to successfully cope with the language requirements of the subsequent courses which they are expected to study upon successful completion of this English language course.
