This course provides an extension of basic nursing skills to include increasingly
complex diseases. The nursing student will explore and master advanced skills
integral to nursing practice. Clinical experiences are provided in healthcare
settings where the student implements the nursing process for patients and their

7. Course Main Objective(s):
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
1. Identify common diseases related to respiratory, cardiovascular,
endocrinology, hematological, gastrointestinal and hepatic disease.
2. Discuss care of patients experiencing acute illnesses.
3. Explore theories of systems, ethics, and adaptations in the use of the nursing
process
4. Exhibit collaboration with the healthcare team.
5. Perform advanced skills integral to nursing practice.
6. Communicate other health care providers to optimize the health status of the
client system.
