About the Department:

The field of Telecommunications is no longer limited to telephone service as it was in the past. Nowadays, communications encompass all aspects of civil, governmental, and health sectors. In fact, our daily lives now rely on communications more than ever. Social media, the internet, cell phones, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and satellite TV are just a few examples of how telecommunications impact our daily lives. In the field of education, electronic portals for civil services and distance learning portals require a strong communications background. Moreover, national security agencies use highly advanced network and communication devices, including GPS and radar communications, to secure the country from all kinds of threats. Especially in the pandemic days we are living in, the role of telecommunications in daily life has become extremely important.

The importance of Telecommunications has significantly increased due to the rapid advancements in related technologies over the past few decades. The comprehensive change in our daily lives has been made possible thanks to the tremendous developments in communication technology. The fundamental role of telecommunications in daily life is now indispensable, and thus it has been included in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Similarly, Saudi Arabia aspires to develop its ICT capabilities and strategic investments in ICT-related projects to achieve the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
