1. What is the Department of Communications Engineering?

The Department of Communications Engineering is one of the departments within the College of Engineering at Taibah University. It prepares engineers specialized in the design and analysis of wired and wireless communication systems, networks, and signal processing.

2. What is the difference between Communications Engineering and Electrical Engineering?

  • Communications Engineering focuses on the design and analysis of information transmission systems through wired and wireless channels, such as cellular communication systems, satellite communications, radar systems, and data networks.
  • Electrical Engineering, on the other hand, is broader and includes several subfields such as electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, electrical machines and drives, electromechanical control systems, electronics, and communications.

Although historically Communications Engineering originated as a branch of Electrical Engineering, at Taibah University it is offered as a distinct and specialized program with a comprehensive curriculum covering both the theoretical and practical aspects of modern communication systems.
While Electrical Engineering students study communications as part of a wider discipline, Communications Engineering students follow a focused plan that includes wired, wireless, and optical systems, networks and cybersecurity, embedded systems, and communication regulations and management.

3. What are the career opportunities for graduates of Communications Engineering?

Graduates can work in:

4. What is the duration of study and total credit hours?
