The scientific committee of "First Antiquities and Tourism Conference in Al Ula: Challenges and Expectations" received (180) research summaries to participate in the conference, which were presented by researchers and antiquities and tourism specialists from (24) country including; KSA, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Malaysia, Yemen, Pakistan, India and Nigeria.
This conference, which Taibah University organizes in cooperation with General Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, will be held during the period from 1-3 Rabeea Al Thani 1434 AH, 11-13 February 2013 AD in Taibah University branch in Al Ula governorate with the participation of researchers and specialists in fields of antiquities and heritage from Arab, African, European and Asian countries.
The conference aims at highlighting the civilized role of man in Al Ula governorate, reviewing means of protecting cultural and structural heritage in Al Ula, reviewing the aspects of economic implementation of cultural heritage resources, displaying scientific experiences and applications of sustainable development in the field of antiquities and tourism, reviewing touristic constituents in AL Ula governorate, exchanging experiences in the field of antiquities and tourism and reinforce the horizons of cooperation between public and private sectors in the field of antiquities and tourism.
The conference will discuss various important issues in the field of antiquities and tourism through four pillars; the first of which is entitled "Antiquities of Al Ula and its History" and it explores issues like "Prehistoric Antiquities", "Pre-Islamic Antiquities", "Islamic Antiquities" and "Al Ula Antiquities in Travel Literature".
The second pillar, which is entitled "Management of Cultural Heritage Resources", discusses issues like "Al Hijr (Mada'in Salih) as a Global Heritage Location", "The Strategy of Heritage Management", "Protection and Maintenance of Cultural Heritage" and "Traditional Industries and Crafts".
The third pillar, which is entitled "Constructional Heritage", discusses issues like "Qualification and Implementation of Constructional Heritage Buildings and Locations", "Successful Experiences in Investing Constructional Heritage Locations" and " Renovation and Maintenance of Constructional Heritage Buildings ", while the fourth pillar, which is entitled "Touristic Development", discusses the issues of economic importance of touristic projects, main constituents of tourism, development of touristic products and touristic marketing.
It is noted that the conference represents an opportunity for researchers and specialists in the field of antiquities and tourism to exchange information and experiences though the scientific sessions of the conference and its accompanying workshops.
