Preparatory Year for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing 

To prepare deaf and hard of hearing students linguistically and academically, enabling them to master university education skills and integrate flexibly and positively, maximizing their capabilities and potential to the fullest extent possible. 

 

Target Group

The program targets students who are graduates of the secondary school stage from the deaf and hard-of-hearing category, and who meet the university’s approved admission requirements.

 

Program Objectives

The Preparatory Year Program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students aims to:

  • Prepare deaf and hard-of-hearing students linguistically and academically to continue their university studies.
  • Develop the language and communication skills necessary for university learning.
  • Prepare students for the transition from general education to the university environment.
  • Equip students with university life skills and independent learning abilities.
  • Support opportunities for academic success and future integration into the labor market.

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the program must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must hold a high school certificate, according to the minimum percentage specified for each educational category.
  • Pass the admission test designated for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Pass the personal interview.
  • Commit to full-time study throughout the duration of the program.
  • Submit proof of hearing loss issued by an accredited government authority.
  • Have no additional disabilities that may hinder the student’s academic achievement at the university level.

These requirements are based on the memorandum of admission requirements and criteria for Preparatory Year students who are deaf or hard of hearing for the current academic year.

 

Selection Criteria

Applicants are evaluated and ranked according to the program’s approved selection criteria, which include:

  • High school cumulative GPA.
  • Score on the Preparatory Year admission test.
  • Personal interview evaluation.

 

Application Process

Applications for the Preparatory Year Program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students are submitted electronically through the National Unified Admission Platform during the announced application period.

 

Application Steps

  1. Access the National Unified Admission Platform.
  2. Select the Preparatory Year Program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students from among the programs offered by Taibah University.
  3. Follow updates regarding the admission test and personal interview schedules through the student’s account on the National Unified Admission Platform or through the university’s official channels.
  4. Attend the admission test and personal interview on the scheduled date, bringing the required documents.
  5. Follow up on the nomination results and complete the admission procedures upon preliminary or final acceptance.
Required Documents

Applicants are required to bring the following documents during the personal interview:

  • High school certificate.
  • National ID or residence permit (Iqama), depending on the applicant’s status.
  • Proof of hearing loss issued by an accredited government authority.
  • Any additional documents requested by the university during the application or selection process.

 

Study Plan

The study plan of the program includes preparatory courses and skills designed to enhance students’ linguistic and academic readiness, and to strengthen their ability to meet the requirements of university study.

Start of Study

Study in the program commences at the beginning of the first semester of the academic year, in accordance with the approved Academic Plan of the Preparatory Year Program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students.
