Taibah University Wins Silver Medal at the 2025 Geneva International Inventions Exhibition with a Medical Innovation
Taibah University won the silver medal at the 2025 Geneva International Inventions Exhibition, one of the world’s leading innovation fairs, for a medical invention developed by a research team from the College of Engineering at the university. The invention is a compact device capable of analyzing more than 26 types of biomedical tests using just a single drop of blood in under three minutes, achieving accuracy levels equivalent to traditional laboratory tests, up to 100%.
This achievement represents a significant milestone in scientific innovation in Saudi Arabia, emerging from a highly competitive field of over 1,000 scientific inventions from 35 countries. Saudi Arabia participated with 134 scientific inventions across 13 fields, including contributions from 38 educational institutions.
The research team at Taibah University developed the device using advanced nanotechnology applied in biomedical engineering, and the invention has been registered as a patent in the United States.
The team explained that the technology relies on smart sensors with ultra-high sensitivity, enabling interactive sensors to detect high-frequency electromagnetic radiation and compare multiple samples to identify subtle differences with high precision. The technology also enhances device responsiveness to different electromagnetic waves, allowing for more precise frequency control, improving analysis efficiency and diagnostic speed, while enabling the development of low-cost medical devices.
The team emphasized that this innovative technology will transform rapid detection of vital signs, supporting healthcare systems, particularly in field care settings, acting as a portable, fully equipped laboratory that improves early detection efficiency and reduces the reliance on traditional, complex equipment.
The research team consists of Dr. Hetan Abu Tarboush, Dr. Omar Farooq, Dr. Mohammed Amin, and Dr. Raed Atta.
This participation crowns Taibah University’s ongoing efforts to support scientific research and innovation and reinforces its role in developing smart solutions aligned with the future healthcare needs in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
