The Vice-President of Taibah University for Educational Affairs Dr. Shaya’ Bin Yehyah Al Qahtany in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Dr.Abdul Kader Bin Reda Allam inaugurated yesterday the training course for the Faculty Members at the Faculty of Medicine in Taibah University on the simulators in the Skills Laboratory at the Faculty.
The Deputy of the Faculty of Medicine for Quality and the Supervisor on developing the Skills Laboratory Dr. Omar Bin Mansour Al Nozhah said that work is continuous to develop the Skills Laboratory to eventually reach an advanced center rendering service to all the Health Faculties through outfitting it with the latest devices and equipments in the medical fields providing the students of the Health Faculties with a practical training of a high level of quality, pointing out that the current phase of developing the center aiming at providing the laboratory with simulators which costed about two millions Riyals. Hence, the human simulation dummies represent the human body at the emergency rooms, i.e. “default patient” or a model simulating the natural human body anatomically, physiologically, and biologically to enable the trainee student(physician)to conduct the sound diagnosis, deal with the patient, and take the proper medical procedure.
He added that those dummies perform the vital operations as the natural Man such as the operations of : breathing, pulsing, pressure, and others. Also, they release sounds for heart, and the advantage of exchanging the natural gases(i.e. perform the inhalation and exhalation operations)taking in Oxygen and emitting Carbon dioxide. As well, they are linked to a computer and their operations are computerized .Through a computer, the required disease condition is selected from a computerized list (computerized program)containing diverse types of disease conditions and multiple scenarios for the disease conditions that can be increased by authoring and preparing other disease conditions as per the educational and training need. In addition, such dummies interact with the anesthesia operation and they are outfitted with other parts and tools displaying a simulation for the wounds in the different parts of the body. As well, they are equipped with a display screen of cardiogram and vital functions. Besides, the laboratory can be provided with cameras displaying ,on the screen in the control room, photos of students and their way of dealing with the disease conditions, and other taking photos of the dummy(default patient) and its interaction with the patient, and the dummy emits multiple sounds such as the human sound by controlling the sounds from the control room.
On his part, Dr.Abdul Mohsen Al Zelbany, the Head of Medical Education Department and the Supervisor of the Skill Laboratory clarified that the provided simulators represent a paramount importance to the Medicine students and contribute significantly in teaching them miscellaneous skills in checking the patients,and this is a considerable added value to the educational process in the program.It is one of the recently followed modern techniques in the medical education whether the university,in training,or the postgraduate studies.As well,the university has an ambitious plan to set-up multi-storey Skills Center in the Medical City to be ready to render service to all the Health Faculties.
