Within the activities the Scientific Chairs Unit in Taibah University, the Chair of Sheikh Yusuf Bin Abdullatif Jameel of Qira’at organized the scientific meeting on the importance of Qira’at science and the care of scholars thereof. The meeting ,in which Prof. Dr.Salem Mahmoud and Dr. Sami Abdel Shakur contributed, witnessed discussions on Qira’at science, reasons of its emergence, role of dialects difference in this regard . The participants in the meeting stressed the importance of this science and taking care of it in grasping the Holy Qur’an and its meanings. On the emergence of Qira’at , Dr.Sami Abdel Shakur, the Associate Professor in Qira’at Department in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Taibah University said Qira’at were initiated in the Madinan era, noting that the worship in the Meccan era was performed in secret, adding that the dialect difference of tribes at that time was the reason of Qira’at revelation. This was between 8-9 A.H; the year of Delegations. Dr. Abdel Shakur pointed out that Qira’at are the difference of the words of revelation mentioned in the letters writing or its method of attenuating , stressing, and others.
On his part, the Arbitration Committee member of the international Qur’anic competition Dr. Salem Mahmoud tackled the stages of Qira’at development as he said nearly 32 books are connected in terms of reference to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), adding that there are several books, considering these books as the pillars and they are the developmental phase in Qira’at history. On the number of Qur’anic Qira’at, Dr. Mahmoud pinpointed that the number of Qira’at is ten.
It is worth mentioning that Chair of Sheikh Yusuf Bin Abdullatif Jameel for of Qira’at aims at upgrading the Qira’at learning level inside and outside the University, expanding the scope of the Qur’anic Qira’at dissemination and its relevant science, developing the systems of teaching the Holy Qur’an, its memorization, and pronouncement according to an upright cognitive approach combining originality and
Contemporaneity, paving the way for researchers to reach the innovation degree in the scientific research in Qur’anic studies, contributing in the national plan of developing scientific research, attaining the wish of the two private and public sectors to take part in the scientific renaissance, renovating the planning in this aspect. As well, it seeks participating in the service of the Holy Qur’an, linking the Qira’at specialty to community through holding scientific workshops, symposia, and conferences to identify this science, qualifying the scientific cadres in the Qira’at specialty and its relevant Tajweed science, writing down and adjusting the Holy Qur’an, number of verses, orienting the Qira’at in terms of language, infliction, fiqh, rhetoric, enriching scientific research in this minute specialty related to the Holy Book of Allah Almighty, taking care of Qur’anic Qira’at revealed to the Prophet( PBUH) which reach by the way of successiveness, and facilitating its reading, comprehension, and contemplation by taking advantage of all the available, technical, audio, and visual scientific potentials.
