His Excellency the Rector of Taibah University Dr. Adnan Bin Abdullah Al Mazrooa sponsored signing a joint scientific cooperation agreement to support scientific, research, and educational activities between the Genes and Genetic Diseases Center and the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences.His Excellency the Rector of Taibah University Dr. Adnan Bin Abdullah Al Mazrooa outlined that the University, through signing this agreement, is looking forward to achieving much more leadership and excellence in medical, educational, and research services which will have the greatest impact in creating scientific and educational atmosphere and finding out the requisite infrastructure for outstanding scientific research and the University’s belief of the necessity of the continuity of constructive work, pinpointing that this agreement will motivate the medical and research education in the Kingdom and contribute in providing distinct medical care and curb the spread of genetic diseases, and reduce them as much as possible.On his side, the Manager of Genes and Genetic Diseases Center Dr. Khalid Bin Meqhem Al Harby clarified that the agreement aims at developing the research, educational, and training partnership between the Genes Center and the Applied Medical Sciences Faculty represented in its affiliates of the academic members and the students of the Faculty as well. By virtue of this agreement, joint cooperation in the medical, educational, and research fields will be developed. Also, in finding out opportunities for the male and female excellent students of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences by joining postgraduate studies at distinctive universities such as McGill University in Canada, and building up the creation and thinking capabilities in the students and graduates of the Applied Medical Sciences through their direct and indirect contribution in the new or existent research projects through working with distinguished researches internally and externally, upgrading the level of medical, research, and educational services provided to community through the mutual visits program between the members of the two teams, and upgrading the level of research production through the joint researches programs, and ideal exploitation of the infrastructures available at the Center and the Applied Medical Sciences Faculty, exchanging experiences and visits between Member Staff from the Faculty and the affiliates of the Center of scientists, researchers, and academicians , and contribution in researches and publishing in international scientific magazines and participation in scientific conferences and research seminars.Dr. Al Harby added that following the Honorable Royal Approval to establish and create the Genes and Genetic Diseases Center in Al Madinah Al Munawwarah and under the umbrella of Taibah University. The Center embarked on its scientific activities at a standard time by organizing the first international conference in Al Madinah Al Munawwarah on the latest developments in Genetics and genetic diseases with the participation of 23 scientists and specialist in Genetics and genetic diseases from all over the world. Besides, the first workshop of diagnosing genes and genetics diseases recently concluded entitled ( Using Instantaneous Radioactive Dyes Technique to Identify Pathological Genes) with the participation of more than 12 scientists and researchers in Genetics and genetic diseases from all over the world and nearly 80 trainers. The Center provides genetic guidance services for families suffering from medical history or susceptibility to genetic diseases. In addition, the Center offers scientific and academic support requisite for the employees in this field of the employees of Ministries of Health and Higher Education and all concerned other sectors.
Dr. Al Harby affirmed that the Center works within its strategies to develop the academic courses to teach medical genetic sciences, create a postgraduate studies program, holding conferences and seminars periodically and develop genetic tests and genetic diagnosis, provide genetic guidance service for patients and their families, hold educating and awareness- raising lectures for the community. Also, the University seeks to be a distinct Center at the level of the Kingdom and Region by exerting research and diagnostic efforts by the most sophisticated international and approved means and technologies.
