The Asool Initiative aims to support the registration of high-quality innovations as intellectual property assets and enable their transformation into marketable economic value and technology transfer opportunities.

The initiative supports the registration of innovations under the types of intellectual property approved by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), including patents, industrial designs, copyrights, trademarks, plant varieties, and integrated circuits. It also provides a fast-track registration pathway for distinguished innovations, in addition to preparing preliminary marketing plans in line with the regulations governing intellectual property and investment in the Kingdom.

Objectives

  • Protecting research and innovation outputs as registered intellectual property assets.

  • Accelerating the registration of innovations with high readiness and national priority.

  • Enhancing opportunities for innovation commercialization and technology transfer.

  • Improving the efficiency of institutional intellectual property investment.

Support Tracks

  1. Supported Registration Track: Supports the procedures and requirements for intellectual property registration in accordance with SAIP regulations.

  2. Fast-Track Registration Track: Dedicated to innovations with high technological readiness or clear national impact.

Application Requirements

  • The innovation must be original and eligible for registration under SAIP regulations.

  • The innovation must align with one of the national priority areas.

  • The applicant must be affiliated with the entity or be part of an approved partnership.

  • The applicant must comply with approved policies on intellectual property, confidentiality, and revenue sharing.

  • The applicant must cooperate with the Innovation and Technology Transfer team during the evaluation and implementation stages.

Evaluation and Application Process

  • Innovations are evaluated based on originality, technological readiness, protectability, national impact, and market feasibility.

  • Applications are submitted through the approved form. All applications are treated with full confidentiality, and the implementing entity, the Administration of Innovation and Technology Transfer, reserves the right to determine the appropriate level of support for each innovation.
