What is the difference between open data and general public information?

What is the difference between open data and general public information?

Open data constitutes part of public information that is proactively published and made available without the need to communicate with the concerned entity. Public information, however, may be requested through the Freedom of Information page.

Who is entitled to request public information?

Everyone has the right to access public (non-protected) information without needing a specific status or justification, and without facing any legal accountability for exercising this right.

How is the request processed?

  • After confirming that the Public Information Request Form is complete, the request is reviewed and analyzed by the relevant department.

  • Notification of the request outcome: once the review is completed, you will be informed of the result via mobile phone or email, either:

    • Approval and provision of the requested information, or

    • Rejection with an explanation of the reasons.

The expected processing time is 30 working days, subject to extension based on the request volume. Applicants will be notified of any extension. Official working hours are Sunday to Thursday, 08:00 a.m. to 02:15 p.m.

The requested data will be delivered through the email address or mobile number provided in the information request form.

Yes, applicants may appeal the rejection of a public information request by submitting an appeal via email to open.data@taibahu.edu.sa

within ten working days from the date the rejection is received.

Information classified as public based on the Freedom of Information Policy and the Data Classification framework issued by the National Data Management Office.

At present, Taibah University provides the public information request service free of charge. Fees may be imposed in the future if applicable.
